General Manager

The Interior Gas Utility (IGU) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced General Manager (GM). This is an excellent opportunity for an entrepreneurial executive to lead, manage, and direct an expanding public natural gas utility in Interior Alaska.

The natural gas utility was established in 2012 and is governed by a seven member Board of Directors.

The IGU GM oversees all operations within the service area. The GM hires, organizes and directs a staff of liquefaction, operations and administrative IGU employees, all of who work in tandem to ensure that natural gas is available to IGU customers in a safe, timely and efficient manner.

The GM is an IGU employee who works directly for the IGU Board under a multi-year employment contract.

LNG Trailer Mechanic

Position:

The Interior Alaska Natural Gas Utility (IGU) is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Trailer Mechanic. The position is based at the IGU liquefaction facility located at 25849 W. Ayrshire Road Big Lake, Alaska.  This position will report to the plant manager and will work closely with other plant personnel.  IGU offers progress pay rates with benefits.

Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screening and background check

Duties/Responsibilities may/may not be limited to the following:

Job Scope:

  • Work on equipment as needed
  • Maintain, trouble shoot and repair semi-trailers (Tankers).

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, trouble shoot and repair LNG Trailers
  • Follow a checklist of inspection procedures

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Must have good endurance
  • Will be required to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, and crawl to perform task
  • Ability to work outdoors in harsh weather conditions

LNG Plant Operator

Position:

The Interior Alaska Natural Gas Utility (IGU) is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of LNG Plant Operator. The position is based at the IGU liquefaction facility located at 25849 W. Ayrshire Road Big Lake, Alaska. Shift work is required. Training will be provided for the successful candidate. This position will report to the plant manager and will work closely with other plant personnel. IGU offers progress pay rates with benefits.

Qualifications:

  • Moderate level of proficiency with computer software such as MS Office products
  • Able to successfully complete pre-employment drug screening and background check

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a sound understanding of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and natural gas
  • Perform equipment inspection/maintenance and complete records
  • Become knowledgeable in plant operating procedures
  • Learn and abide by all plant safety protocols
  • Perform basic operations on LNG cargo trailers
  • Recognize and respond to abnormal operating procedures
  • Troubleshoot and assess equipment malfunctions
  • Become qualified in all tasks pertaining to gas operator tier levels

Seasonal Gas Line Construction Positions

Interior Gas Utility will be accepting resumes for the following skilled 2023 temporary/seasonal positions soon:

  • Gas Line Construction Laborers
  • Gas Line Excavation Equipment Operators
  • Quality Assurance Inspector
  • Site Surveyor
  • Line Locator

IGU anticipates the temporary positions are needed from May until October 15. These positions will be directly engaged in the installation of gas services lines and gas main extensions and other duties as required by company.

Work involves locating and excavating gas mains, trenching, and drilling operations, fusion of HDPE pipe and fittings, purging and pressure testing new gas lines. Following the gas line installation, restoration of concrete, asphalt, and landscape surfaces is required. Installation crews will comply with excavation permit requirements and adhere to company safety requirements, including traffic control. Documentation of materials installed, and as-built sketches is included.

Specific training on natural gas characteristics, safety, standard construction details, HDPE fusion, purging, pressure tests, and documentation will be provided prior to the start of the construction season. Class A CDL driving license in Alaska is highly desirable.

Compensation will be dependent upon experience. Work schedule is typically 6 days per week. A valid driver’s license is required as well as pre-employment drug screening. Must have own transportation.
